Hey everyone, I’ve got a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.6L V6 engine, and recently my alternator gave out while I was on a road trip (of course, right when you need it most!). Now I’m looking to replace it, but I heard there are some options to swap in alternators from other Jeep or Dodge models, and I’m wondering if I can upgrade it instead of just doing a straight replacement.
The stock alternator on mine is a 180-amp, but I’ve read that some folks have had success swapping it with a 220-amp alternator from other Grand Cherokees or even Dodge Durangos. Does anyone know if this is true? I want to make sure it fits without messing up the electrical system.
Also, if anyone’s done this swap before, I’d love to hear how it’s working out for you. Did you notice any difference in power or reliability? And any installation tips would be awesome too, because I’m not a mechanic but I’m pretty handy with tools. Thanks!
