Title: Why does my Jeep Grand Cherokee squeal when starting, and how can I fix it?
Threaded Mode
#1
Hey everyone, I need some advice! My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been making this awful squealing noise every time I start it, especially in the morning or when it’s cold. It’s loud and kind of embarrassing—sounds like a dying animal. I’m guessing it’s the serpentine belt, but I’m not entirely sure what the issue is.

From what I’ve read, the squealing could be caused by a few things. The belt might just be old and worn out, and I’ve noticed mine looks shiny, which could mean it’s slipping. I’ve also heard that a loose or misaligned belt can cause this too, and I’m wondering if my tensioner isn’t keeping it tight enough. There’s also the possibility that one of the pulleys or even the tensioner itself is worn out, but I’m not sure how to tell for sure. I tried spinning the pulleys by hand, and they seem okay, but I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for.

I’m thinking about replacing the serpentine belt first since that seems like the most likely cause. Has anyone here replaced the belt on a Grand Cherokee? How tough is it to do yourself, and do I need any special tools? Also, do you think I should check the tensioner and pulleys while I’m at it, or is there another possible culprit I might be missing? I really want to get this fixed before it gets worse, or I drive myself (and my neighbors) crazy with the noise!

Any advice or tips would be awesome, especially if you’ve dealt with this on your own Jeep. Thanks in advance!
