So, my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee is acting up – the speedometer decided to stop working all of a sudden. Everything else on the dash is fine (thankfully), but driving without knowing your speed is... well, let’s just say not ideal.
I know these older models can have some quirks, but I’m not sure where to start looking. Could this be something as simple as a blown fuse, or am I looking at a bad speed sensor? I’ve also read that sometimes it’s an issue with the speedometer cable, but I don’t want to just throw parts at it without knowing for sure.
Has anyone else had this issue on their older Grand Cherokee? What was the fix? I’m really hoping it’s not an electrical issue or something buried deep in the dash. I’m okay with basic repairs, but if this is something that requires me pulling the whole dashboard apart, I might have to admit defeat and take it to a mechanic.
Also, if anyone knows an easy way to test whether it’s the fuse or sensor before I start replacing stuff randomly, I’d really appreciate it. Don’t want to end up with a bunch of new parts I didn’t need! Thanks for any advice you can share – I need to get this sorted before I start guessing my speed on the highway!
